I often hear the question, how do I get into Arabian racing? Well actually,
there are a number of good ways to become a part of the thrilling Arabian
racing industry.
In Arabian racing as in any endeavor, knowledge is of the utmost importance.
First, before you do anything, contact the Arabian Jockey Club and ask
to be sent a copy of the booklet, The Original Racehorse, a New Owner's
Guide to Arabian Racing and a video, "The Original Racehorse." Both
are free of charge, and both are beautifully conceived and very helpful.
They will give you a wealth of information, including what expenses
you might expect. They also capture a bit of the color and excitement
of this great sport.
Next, subscribe to Finish Line, the Arabian Racing magazine. This is
not free (about $30 a year), but well worth the money, as it will supply
you with invaluable information about the Arabian racing scene.
"OK," you say, "I've done all that and I want in, but I still don't
know just how to go about it."
Well first of all, find someone already in racing to help. They can
help you through the maze of trainers, tracks, and horses. Most owners
and breeders are more than happy to help because Arabian racing is the
fastest growing part of the racing sport and there is plenty of room
for everyone. The more the merrier.
Now, once you feel comfortable that you have both knowledge and guidance,
its time to get your feet wet and find a suitable horse to carry your
colors. There are a number of ways to acquire such a horse.
You might own one now! Its always a good idea to get knowledgeable people
to look at any horse or horses you might now own to confirm their suitability
for racing before you start paying training bills on them.
What if you don't own an acceptable horse? There are a number of ways
to acquire one. There are auctions, private sales, partnerships and
syndications, for example. You can learn about the first two methods
by reading your copies of Finish Line, or by consulting with your mentor.
I personally favor partnerships and syndications for new owners. The
new owner can gain a lot of experience while limiting his or her expenses
to just a fraction of what it would be to take a horse to the track
alone. Plus, the new owner can profit from his or her partners' knowledge
and experience. Some of these partnerships are very creative and afford
a great way to enter the exciting racing world.

Partnerships are presently being considered on any of the younger racing
stock.
